Legend and lore tell of a great war, lasting for generations in an unknown era, a forgotten place where kings ruled the land. A nameless knight, a nobody, went on a quest to find a powerful weapon, a sword, of such beauty and power that no man, save for a fool, dare search. The knight conquered his demons and sought the sword for his kingdom. He drew his sword and, commanding the powers of nature, ended the war once and for all, but the weapon upon completing its mission, shattered in the hands of the knight never to be seen again. But maybe, just maybe it might be seen again someday…
Seth was always to be found on the hill behind the library in the Saturday afternoon, daydreaming, as always, about adventures that he could be having. He would close his eyes and think, oblivious to the world and all its inhabitants, while basking under the warm sun, the dark green grass in stark contrast with his red hair. He sat up with a start. “Hey! Wake up Seth, it’s time to go.” It was his friend Garett, just like always.
“Oh fine, just stop yelling at me” said a drowsy Seth as he stood “I’m coming.” Garett and Seth were a strange pair, but even so, they were inseparable.
“Rose is waiting” Garett sighed shaking his head.
Seth elbowed him in the ribs teasingly in response “we are going to get there in time, stop worrying.”
“Easy for you to say…” Garett was always fairly nervous and sometimes slightly critical. He envied Seth’s laid back attitude often.
“They always do this, where on Lovanthia are those two?” Rose paced around the room impatiently. She simply couldn’t wait for Seth and Garett to arrive. With an exaggerated sigh Rose flopped down on a chair and waited.
Eventually Rose heard a knock on the door and let her friends in. “you’re late, again.”
“Sorry Rose, we took a wrong turn” Seth smiled awkwardly.
“I think you mean, fell asleep” Garett walked in behind Seth.
Rose rolled her eyes and closed the door after them locking it. “Anyways, no that both of you are here, I have something important to tell you”
“What is it?” Seth sat down looking at her.
“You remember those shards that we found?” The room grew somewhat tense at the mention of the shards. Several months ago on a walk through a nearby forest, the trio found five shimmering shards of glass lodged in the ground. There was something about the shards that drew them close, but what could possibly be special about broken glass in the woods? Despite their doubts they soon realized that the glass was special for some odd reason, yet none of them knew why.
The boys nodded in silent agreement
“Well, I’ve found a book that mentions them.” She held up a large dusty book. “The shards are pieces of an ancient sword it seems.” Rose opened the book and read to them, the story of the stained glass sword. Among the pages, the story gave clues of the location of the sword.
“Riecaal?” Garett held his head in confusion. “But that’s on the other side of Lovanthia! How are we going to get to Riecaal on our own?!”
“The book has directions on how to get there…” Rose seemed to deflate at Garett’s reaction.
Seth gave his friend a warning look “Well if it really says how to get there, then let’s go! It’s what brought us together in the first place so we can’t go back now.”
Rose looked up at him hopefully
“Great…” Garett wasn’t so sure.
And the path was set.
